Superlite Noodles don’t need to be cooked as they do come “wok ready”, but we highly recommend preparing them in the following way:
Tear open the bag and place noodles in a colander. Run some fresh water over it. You might notice a slight smell upon opening the bag – this is because it has been packaged in water, and you want to get rid of this smell with a good, thorough rinse. From here on, you have two options:
Put noodles in a pot of hot water and let it stand for a while, or boil it for a couple of minutes. Remove from water, add to your dish, or add to your sauce.
Place noodles in a hot pan or wok and dry fry them for a few minutes. The noodles release a little bit of water, and the more water they release the whiter they become in colour and the texture becomes a little more “pasta-like”. When all the water is released, consider them done. Now add to your dish, or add to your sauce.
Some Helpful Tips
Did you know?
Superlite Noodles cannot burn, so dry frying is absolutely fine. They consist largely of water, and therefore release water when they cook. They also don’t contain any starch, so can’t stick together like regular noodles.
Adding to your dish
When adding noodles to a dish such as a soup or stew, it’s not necessary to prepare them before. Just rinse them under fresh water, and add them straight to the pot. Rice pearls are great to add to a pot of soup for instance.
Cooking a noodle dish
When cooking a noodle dish, like a stir fry or “pasta”, we recommend preparing them before. This gives you the opportunity to add some flavour as well, for instance some soy sauce, sesame seed oil, olive oil, coconut oil etc. (these only need to be added once noodles are cooked)
Lasagne sheets always need to be prepared in order to make a good lasagne. They too release water when cooked, so to avoid a watery dish, dry fry each of the sheets in a hot pan first. Make sure the water is released, and then add them to your lasagne.
